A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
Director: Kim Jee-Won
Genre: Horror/Thriller
An astounding, dark, and tragic story of two sisters. The Epitome of quality psychological theme and a supernatural horror.
Best Film and Best Picture, A Tale of Two Sisters was recognized because of excellent storyline and absolute shot of cinematography. It also had a remake film in the entitled The Uninvited.

Synopsis: After being institutionalized in a mental hospital, Su-mi reunites to her sister Su-yeon and they return in their country home. The two sistersW experienced something strange as they spent time with their stepmom.
It’s not surprising at all that some viewers found it boring, given the fact that it is extremely slow-paced. However, if you only watched it for a scare factor, then this film is definitely not for you! Diving to its storyline, it is a supernatural horror with a concept of psychological.
The cinematography and angle shots in this films is crucial because the nature of the conflict is reflected in the setting, hidden symbol and design. In fact, it is a type of film that needs a wide analysis.

It started off with Su-mi at mental hospital, as she is being treated for psychosis. She returned to her home alongside with her sister Su-yeon. Strange things started to begin when the two sisters lived with their stepmother.

Su-mi and Su-yeon doesn’t have a good relationship with their stepmother. Eun-joo acted strange towards the two sister.
Su-mi promised that she will protect her sister at all cost. When she found out that Su-yeon is being maltreated by Eun-joo, Su-mi fought againts her stepmom. In the following days, strange and disturbing events increases the tension between the two girls and Eun-joo. As the events become frightening, they realizes that there’s something wrong and different presence in their house.
The twist is too complicated to understand at all, many viewers found it confusing (and so do I, not gonna lie) however, it is an excellent film that everyone should see but not everyone can appreciate.
This film is very open to talk about the Dissociative Identity Disorder and it’s a great combination of horror with supernatural and thrill. The scary aspect in this film are only few but the anxiety while watching it is high.
Before watching this, viewers should earn more patience because A Tale of Two Sisters is a one of a hell rollercoaster ride. It is slow-paced, had some boring parts and unremained answers.
Su-mi’s anger, grief, and loneliness are all expressed through the haunted house.
An epitome of Psychological-Horror themed, it is a complete package for those who love this genre. The ghost in the closet was the mother of Su-mi and Su-yeon, there were no metaphor or analysis there, the ghost in this film simply existed as the director conveyed that a horror film should be fear of the things that we can and can not see.
